Row by row seating for bleachers and uneven rows

Write each row the way it is really built, with its own seat numbers, walkways, missing seats and sideways shift.

Who can do this: Owners, admins and managers.

Before you start

  • Create a chart and add a seating section. See the article on building a seating chart.

Part 1Open the row by row editor

  1. 1Click Seating in the dashboard sidebar, then click your chart.
  2. 2Click the section on the chart to select it.
  3. 3Scroll the panel on the right to Row by row.
  4. 4Click Customize rows. If the section already has custom rows, the button says Edit rows.
  5. 5Look at the list. Each row has four parts, from left to right: a small box for the row label, a wide box for the seats, a number box for the shift, and the count of seats in that row.

Click Hide to fold the list away. Your rows are kept.

Part 2Add or remove rows

A new section has 8 rows, A to H. You can go up to 120 rows.

  1. 1Click + Add row under the list. The button shows the label the new row will get, for example + Add row I.
  2. 2Click it again for each extra row. To reach row L from a new section, click it four times, for I, J, K and L.
  3. 3Click Remove last row to take the last row off. Anything you typed for that row is removed with it.
  4. 4Type in the small label box at the start of a row to rename just that row. A label can be up to 6 characters.

Part 3Write a row the way it is built

In the wide box, type the seats from left to right with a space between each part. Leave the box blank and the row uses the section's Seats per row.

  1. 1Type a range of seat numbers with a dash, like 1-6.
  2. 2Type a | (a vertical bar) for a walkway or beam. One bar is one seat wide. Type || for a gap two seats wide.
  3. 3Type a _ (an underscore) for a missing seat. Type __ for two missing seats in a row.
  4. 4Type anything else, such as 12A or W1, to make one seat with exactly that label. Labels use letters and numbers only, up to 6 characters.
  5. 5For a row with seats 1 to 6, a walkway, seats 7 to 20, a walkway, then seats 21 to 30, type: 1-6 | 7-20 | 21-30
  6. 6For a row with seats 1 to 12, a beam, seats 13 to 22, seats 23 and 24 missing, then seats 25 to 30, type: 1-12 | 13-22 __ 25-30
  7. 7Check the count at the end of each row. The first example shows 30 seats. The second shows 28.
  8. 8Click the down arrow at the end of a row to copy that row's seats and shift to every row below it.
  9. 9Click Save chart.

A row can hold at most 200 positions, counting seats, walkways and missing seats together. You can write a range backwards, like 30-1, to number a row from right to left.

Part 4Shift a row left or right

Rows do not have to line up with each other. Use the shift to line each row up with the real structure.

  1. 1Find the number box just after the wide seats box on the row you want to move.
  2. 2Type a positive number to slide the row to the right. Type a negative number to slide it to the left.
  3. 3Use the same units as Seat spacing. If the seat spacing is 26, a shift of 26 moves the row over by one seat, and 13 moves it by half a seat.
  4. 4Watch the chart as you type. The row moves right away.
  5. 5Click Reset every row to the grid if you want to clear every custom row in the section and start again.

Tips

  • Put a space on both sides of every | and _. Writing 1-6|7-20 with no spaces will not be read.
  • A walkway or missing seat really separates the seats on each side. Buyers see the gap, and the no single seat rule does not treat seats across a walkway as neighbors.
  • You can use commas instead of spaces if you find that easier to read, like 1-6, |, 7-20.
  • For a quick one-off gap you can also click a seat on the chart to remove it. Row patterns are better when whole rows differ.

If something goes wrong

The seats box turns red and says "Can't read "1-6|7-20". Use seat numbers like 1-6, "|" for a walkway and "_" for a missing seat."

Add spaces between the parts, like 1-6 | 7-20. Until the row is fixed, the chart draws that row with the section's normal seats per row, and the chart will not save.

The row says "Seat 7 appears twice."

The same seat number is written twice in that row, often because two ranges overlap, like 1-7 and 7-20. Change one range so each number appears once.

The row says "A row can hold at most 200 positions." or that a range "is more than 200 seats."

Split the row across two sections. Each row is limited to 200 positions, counting walkways and missing seats.

Saving fails with a message that starts with the section name and row, such as "Section 1, row L:"

That row's pattern has a mistake. Open Row by row for that section, find the row with the red box, and fix it. Then click Save chart again.
